Query RE: Trip Cancellation/Interruption Due to Icelandic Volcano Eruption

I have been in touch with the Lynda Stewart in regards to a question about trip cancellation or interruption due to the recent Iceland volcanic ash situation. A friend of mine missed her flight to Rome and a cruise due to this situation. As the eruption could be considered "an act of God", would the Medoc insurance cover our members in this situation?

This morning I received the following reply from Lynda.

All the best, Judy

Answer from MEDOC:

I have checked with our MEDOC team; and they advise that
trips that have been interrupted or cancelled due to the volcanic ash
situation originating in Iceland will be covered on their MEDOC policy.
Members would need to contact the MEDOC claims service provider, GEM at the
numbers shown on the back of their MEDOC card.

Pension Update

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings, Colleagues in Retirement,

Please find, attached, the report arising out of the Pension Consultations, held province-wide by the BCTF, in 2009/10. You may recall that these consultations were held, via local meetings and/or online surveys, to seek input and guidance from the Teachers' Pension Plan membership, as to how to address future shortfalls in the Inflation Adjustment Acccount, of our pensions. As indicated in the note below, the report will go to the 2010 BCTF Annual General Meeting in March (the BCRTA is allowed representation at the Pensions section, of the BCTF AGM, and a number of the BCRTA Executive and Committee members will be attending to give input on behalf of the BCRTA membership).

Wishing us all a happy pension outcome!

Valerie Dyer
PQRTA President (2009-10)

Reminder of the PQRTA Christmas Luncheon

Dear Members,

A reminder of the PQRTA Christmas Luncheon and General Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 11:30 to 2:30 at Creek House Restaurant ( French Creek Marina on Lee Road ).

Just a quick reminder that we will again be collecting items for the Salvation Army Food Bank at our Christmas Social on December 1st. All of the items collected stay in the area to help needy families in Parksville/Qualicum and vicinity. The recent news headlines that 25% of BC's children are victims of poverty is of particular concern to teachers; one small thing we can do to help is provide non-perishable food items that children will enjoy:
canned fruits; juice; individual pkgs of hot cereals; peanut butter; hot chocolate mix; etc etc -- you'll have some favorite items in mind. Thank you for your generosity.
Also, I will have all the RTA photo albums at the Social; you might like to look through them. Incidentally, the position of Club Photographer/Historian has been vacant since our year-end June BBQ. Maybe after looking at the Albums again, YOU might consider taking on this very enjoyable chore -- just see me or speak to President Val.
Thank you, and looking forward to seeing you,
Barb Brett

Salvation Army Christmas Food Hamper

Hello Everyone!

In conjunction with our Christmas Social on December 1st, we will again be collecting for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

In previous years, they have been particularly pleased that our donations included the following:
--peanut butter and jams
--canned fish
--canned fruits and vegetables and beans
--hot chocolate
--soups
--cereals
--baby food

All of the donations go to the Salvation Army Food Bank at Lee Rd. in Parksville, and all stay in the area.
(If you would prefer to bring cash, there will be a donation tin available.)

Thank you so much for your generosity in the past; if we all start setting aside a couple of items now, we will be ready on December 1st to make the winter a little better for our local needy families.

Looking forward to seeing you at our Christmas Social,
Barb Brett bbrett@uniserve.com 250-752-7029
