A Tax by any other name

Greetings, Colleagues in Retirement,

Please find, below, an article which appeared on p. 2 of the COSCO News, of the September, 2010 edition (I have bolded some parts). This publication is put out by the Council of Senior Citizens' Organizations of B.C. (C0SC0).

This article is important for two reasons, I believe:

* its effect on seniors in B.C.
* a call to action should one find oneself, or one's loved one, in this situation.

Query RE: Trip Cancellation/Interruption Due to Icelandic Volcano Eruption

I have been in touch with the Lynda Stewart in regards to a question about trip cancellation or interruption due to the recent Iceland volcanic ash situation. A friend of mine missed her flight to Rome and a cruise due to this situation. As the eruption could be considered "an act of God", would the Medoc insurance cover our members in this situation?

This morning I received the following reply from Lynda.

All the best, Judy

Answer from MEDOC:

I have checked with our MEDOC team; and they advise that
trips that have been interrupted or cancelled due to the volcanic ash
situation originating in Iceland will be covered on their MEDOC policy.
Members would need to contact the MEDOC claims service provider, GEM at the
numbers shown on the back of their MEDOC card.

Pension Update

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings, Colleagues in Retirement,

Please find, attached, the report arising out of the Pension Consultations, held province-wide by the BCTF, in 2009/10. You may recall that these consultations were held, via local meetings and/or online surveys, to seek input and guidance from the Teachers' Pension Plan membership, as to how to address future shortfalls in the Inflation Adjustment Acccount, of our pensions. As indicated in the note below, the report will go to the 2010 BCTF Annual General Meeting in March (the BCRTA is allowed representation at the Pensions section, of the BCTF AGM, and a number of the BCRTA Executive and Committee members will be attending to give input on behalf of the BCRTA membership).

Wishing us all a happy pension outcome!

Valerie Dyer
PQRTA President (2009-10)

Pension Update

BCTF Pension Consultation Report, 2010

Many BCRTA members attended local meetings of the Pension Consultation process and many others went online to do the Inflation Adjustment Account (IAA) survey. Following four months of local meetings and analysing the survey responses of over 8,000 pension plan members, the Pension Consultation Report to the 2010 BCTF Annual General Meeting is now available online at the BCTF web site.
